I continued to read the reviews and was a bit nervous the closer we got because of the negative reviews. We booked last spring before we knew anything about them changing to Secrets. My wife and I spent our honeymoon here from Jan 21-26. The Sabor invaders are self upgrading, you should solve. Smile and acknowledge your guests when you are out. Waiters would be hanging around and not helping each other. Food sat in service window at beach grill getting cold. Increase staffing in restaurants or get people working together. Management advice: Put some softer rubber wheels on those noisy carts your staff is running over tile floors. Or you can stay apart and no one will bother you. People: Be friendly and you will meet friends. I went gulf fishing, not catching anything, for four hours, but enjoyed the time with the guys. Three reefs for $40, plus refreshments, this was fun. Went on snorkeling tour booked through Apple desk. We took the catamarans out for no charge. Saw lots of fish just off beach, plus lobster, sting ray, barracuda, tiger fish, and others. Best to enter beach for snorkeling in front of first Sabor building. The plus side – sandwiches, Danishes, and desserts were good. They are just getting this going and staffed, but if you are a coffee nerd – you might be disappointed. Coco coffee shop is just getting started and the coffee products were inconsistent and often not that good. Name your premium drink or you will get the bottom shelf. Bar service: Good at Sky bar, back pool, and Beach bar. Stronger lighting in bathroom would be nicer to shave, etc. Nice, clean room in need of some updates to bath cabinets and a little paint. Room: Booked ocean view, non-preferred club. 3 books, really? Pack less medical remedies you “might need”. Best advice to myself: Take it easy your first night. Beach and grounds are beautiful and clean. We had no ill effects from food/water/ice. The service inconsistencies were the biggest issue. We had great meals and great service, only to later have a poor, cold meal and super slow service at the same restaurants. The reviews have been up/down for the Secrets Aura and after our recent stay, I would agree with both sides. Imagine paying for a Cadillac and the dealer giving you a Chevy. People are buying based on the ratings and assuming they are getting the claimed level of resort and the corresponding amenities and service levels. There should be an independent rating system. Apple/Secrets part of same AM Resorts group. I booked through Apple Vacations as a 6 golden apple resort. I would stay here again.īest advice to myself: Take it easy your first night.
